Everyday Kind Of Day…

We had a good day today. Didn’t feel great though. My tummy was all gassy and nauseous and I kept getting small flares in my cheek and ear area. I know it’s not actually in my ear, but in the nerves around that area, but it sometimes still feels like it’s in my ear. (I mean TN pain when I say flares, for those of you who are wondering what the heck I’m talking about!!) The TN support group meeting is this Sunday. I think I’ll go. I keep meaning to attend, but something always comes up at the same time. Hopefully this Sunday will remain clear and I am able to go. I’m a bit nervous about it, since I don’t really know anyone, but it’d probably be a good thing for me to do. It’d be nice to meet some people who 100% understand what TN is really like, first hand. Not second or hearsay- lol I think you know what I mean!!  I received the lab requisition in the mail today and I made an appointment at the lab to do the glucose tolerance test, that I have to get done, on Monday. I’ll have to do the stupid fast in preparation, but it’s only one night and the morning, which is not that bad! In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, I have to get tested to see if I have pre-diabetes, because a routine blood test showed that my blood sugar is in the pre-diabetic range. I have to make a Drs appointment after I do the test to discuss my results with my dr. Hopefully it turns out fine. I’m not overly concerned. I’m going to wait and see what the test shows, before I get too worried about it. If so, I guess I have to find a way to make some changes…I’ll know where I’m at soon enough, I suppose.  Worrying won’t change anything on Monday! I’ll just have to be patient (is that the wrong spelling…??). Well, I think I’m going to take off for now. I’m tired and ready for bed now. It feels like it should be midnight, but it’s not even 10:00 yet! I’m not sure why I’m so darn tired all the time…maybe I have prediabetes – lol!! (Wasn’t that one of the symptoms that I wrote down the other day when I was describing early symptoms?? I feel like it was!) Anyway, I’m off to bed now. Night all💤😴

More Pre-Diabetes Info

So, a bit more about pre-diabetes. Yesterday I didn’t add much information about treatment. It’s pretty straightforward stuff. Mostly it’s lifestyle changes, which sound easier than they actually are!! I’m trying not to worry too much. Especially when I haven’t even done the next lab test yet. I guess it’s a waiting game.

Here’s some information about the treatment of pre-diabetes. (Taken from the Mayo Clinic website):

Healthy lifestyle choices can help you bring your blood sugar level back to normal, or at least keep it from rising toward the levels seen in type 2 diabetes.
To prevent prediabetes from progressing to type 2 diabetes, try to:

Eat healthy foods. Choose foods low in fat and calories and high in fiber. Focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Strive for variety to help you achieve your goals without compromising taste or nutrition.

Be more active. Aim for 30 to 60 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week.

Lose excess weight. If you’re overweight, losing just 5 to 10 percent of your body weight — only 10 to 20 pounds (4.5 to 9 kilograms) if you weigh 200 pounds (91 kilograms) — can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. To keep your weight in a healthy range, focus on permanent changes to your eating and exercise habits. Motivate yourself by remembering the benefits of losing weight, such as a healthier heart, more energy and improved self-esteem.

Stop smoking.

Take medications as needed. If you’re at high risk of diabetes, your doctor might recommend metformin (Glucophage, others). Medications to control cholesterol and high blood pressure might also be prescribed.

And here’s more. (Taken from WebMD):

Eat the Foods You Like

You don’t have to give up your favorite meals just because you have prediabetes, but you need to know how your choices affect your blood sugar. A diabetes educator or dietitian can teach you how to count carbs, read food labels, and size up portions. Those skills will let you control your prediabetes and keep your taste buds happy at the same time.

Write it down.

Every day, jot down important info like your blood sugar levels, what you ate, exercise you did, and medicine you took. It will help you and your doctor see if your treatment is working. Also write down your goals and feelings. It will let you stay on track and remind you about topics you want to ask your doctor about.

Fight Everyday Stress

Cut down on the tension in your life and your diabetes will thank you. Stress can raise your blood sugar and may lead you to make poor food choices, too.

Exercise is a great way to ease the strain. It raises the levels of chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. There are lots of ways to get active. Work out in the gym, join a sports team, or take dance lessons. The main thing is to keep moving!

Exercise in Short Sessions
You don’t have to cram your physical activity into one big burst. Spread it out over the day. Three 10-minute walks are as good as 30 minutes at once. Regular, moderate workouts will do a world of good. They help control your blood sugar, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and ease stress.

Try Strength Workouts
You can prevent muscle loss if you do strength training, like lifting weights or using resistance equipment. Studies suggest it also improves how your body uses insulin and sugar. And of course, it’s a great way to lose weight, too.

Well folks. I’m obviously still stewing in this. So I’m going to run. Bedtime anyway!! Night all💤😴

Pre-Diabetes

Today I’ve been reading about pre-diabetes.  Why?? Well, I received a phone call today from my Drs office regarding the blood test that I had last week. My blood sugar cane back in the pre-diabetes range. They are sending me another lab requisition for a more detailed test. I have to do an 8 hour fast, then they test my blood sugar for my fasting blood sugar, then I drink that sugary drink they give you and I get to wait there for 2 hours and then they will test my blood sugar again.  I’m not overly worried, my blood sugar level was at the lower end of the scale, but I was interested in finding out more information. Here’s what I learned (taken from the web-site: Metabolic Leader)

Pre-Diabetes is defined as a fasting blood sugar between 100-125 or an A1c greater than 5.8 and less than 6.5. It’s when your blood glucose level is higher than normal (>100), but it’s not high enough to be considered diabetes (>125 on two occasions). There are other typical characteristics of pre-diabetes we call the Metabolic Syndrome;

(1.) Obesity defined by a Body Mass Index (BMI) >30, a belt size in a woman >35 inches or in a man >40 inches.

(2.) Hypertension or high blood pressure.

(3.) Low HDL cholesterol (“Good Cholesterol”) < 40 in men and <50 in women.
(4.) High triglycerides, >150. If you have three of these factors, you have the metabolic syndrome, as well.

Pre-diabetes is an indication that you may develop type 2 diabetes if you don’t make some lifestyle changes. About 30% of people with pre-diabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes and we know that it is treatable.
The good news is that it is possible to prevent pre-diabetes from developing into type 2 diabetes. Eating healthy food, losing weight, and being physically active can help you bring your blood glucose level back into the normal range. By this treatment, many people can prevent the development and complications of diabetes.

There are also some common early symptoms  (taken from the same source):

Diabetes develops gradually, so you may have none of these diabetes symptoms or you may experience only a few of them:

• You are hungrier than normal

• You are losing weight, despite eating more

• You are thirstier than normal

• You have to go to the bathroom more frequently

• You are more tired than usual

All of these are typical symptoms associated with diabetes, so if you are in the early stages of diabetes, you may notice these symptoms.

Finally a little info on the causes and Risk Factors of pre-diabetes (taken from the same source):

Pre-diabetes develops when your body begins to develop resistance to the hormone insulin or makes too little insulin. Insulin is necessary to transport glucose from the blood to the cells in your body. In pre-diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or it doesn’t use it well (that’s called insulin resistance). Obesity, genetic predisposition and inactivity are risk factors for insulin resistance. If you don’t have enough insulin or if you are insulin resistant, you can build up too much glucose in your blood, leading to a higher-than-normal blood glucose level and perhaps pre-diabetes.
Risk Factors:
• Weight: If you are overweight (have a BMI of higher than 25), you are at a high risk for developing pre-diabetes. Especially if you carry a lot of extra weight in your abdomen, you may develop pre-diabetes. The fat cells and other organs release factors that can cause your body to become more insulin resistant.
• Lack of physical activity: This often goes hand-in-hand with being overweight. If you aren’t physically active, you burn fewer calories and are more likely to develop pre-diabetes.

• Family history: Pre-diabetes has a hereditary factor. If someone in your close family has (or had) it, you are more likely to develop pre-diabetes.

• Race/ethnicity: Certain ethnic groups are more likely to develop pre-diabetes, including African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and Asian Americans.

• Age: The older you are, the more at risk you are for developing pre-diabetes. At age 45, your risk starts to rise, and after age 65, your risk increases exponentially.

• Gestational Diabetes: If you developed diabetes while you were pregnant, that increases your risk for developing pre-diabetes and diabetes later on in life.

• Other health problems: High blood pressure (hypertension) and high cholesterol (the “bad” LDL cholesterol) are associated with developing type 2 diabetes.

• Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Raises the risk of pre-diabetes because it is related to insulin resistance. In PCOS, many cysts form in a woman’s ovaries, and one possible cause is insulin resistance. If you have PCOS, that means you may be insulin resistant and therefore at risk for developing pre-diabetes and diabetes later on in life.

Well, this is a lot to take in. Hopefully the more accurate test that I am getting done, I remember it from pregnancy, will show that I don’t even have pre-diabetes. We will soon find out! But because I’m feeling like I want to ponder this information, I’m going to stop writing for the night. Not get all💤😴

Drive Drive Drive!

Had to drive my hubby

To the airport today

Now he’s in Fort Mac

I hate when he’s away

But it’s only for 3 days

I guess that’s not so bad

I know it could be worse

And that would make me sad

Since my hubby’s gone

I had to drive to dance

On driving all over the place

I know you know my stance

I feel like all I did was drive

And drive and drive

But at least I was doing something

It lets me know I’m alive

And now I’m going to sleep

I’m feeling really sleepy

For some reason I have tears in my eyes

And I’m feeling a little weepy

There’s no real reason for this

I have no idea why

But it’s nothing to worry about

Instead I’ll say goodbye

Night all 💤😴

Lazy Day

Today was pretty lazy. I did not get much done. Not much at all. I played with my son quite a bit. We took turns throwing ping pong balls into bowls, cups and boxes he had all set up. We made each shot worth different amounts of points. Then we took lots of shots and added up our points at the end. He even came up with different trick shots, including backwards and bounces. It was fun, but I was feeling tired and lazy today. I don’t know why I’ve been so tired lately…I’ve been getting enough sleep. I just feel sleepy and tired all of the time!! I talked to my mom this evening. When they were driving home from the funeral in California they decided to stop at their BC house. They’re still there now, but coming home sometime this week. I’m just feeling tired tonight, so I’m going to cut this short and get some sleep. Night all 💤😴

Baking Girl

Today we did some cleaning and I played with my son – a lot!! He’s so creative at making up games – sometimes!! Lol. Some of them are repetitive and silly. But silly is okay – and that’s how they learn at his age. And as long as we’re laughing and happy, I’m good!  I made some failed chocolate chip cookies with canni- butter today. I mean they work for an edible option, instead of vaping.  However, they are super thin and fall apart. I don’t know what I did wrong! I followed the recipe to a t!! Weird. I was so mad! My daughter said that the whole house was stinky. I couldn’t tell, because I was right there. So they didn’t turn out okay at all!! Very disappointed!! Tell me what I did wrong??!! Please!!

Oh! My daughter passed her practical test yesterday!! She’s now completed and passed all the tests, so we know that she is going to have a job!! Yay!! That’s a relief!! She actually wasn’t very nervous, I think I was more anxious than her!!  That’s just a mom’s worrying!! Outwardly, I acted confident and sure, but on the inside I did my motherly worrying! But, yay! She passed! So no more to be concerned about!! Now I’m going to head to bed!! Night all💤😴

Beauty And The Beast

We had a typical day again today – same old same old!! Much of the same, other than a blood test I needed for my dr. Just routine tests. This evening we had a girls night. My daughter’s and I went to Beauty And The Beast. It was SO good!! Even though you know the story, it doesn’t matter. It is just really good. The songs are great and the humour and, just everything, is good!! There are a few songs that aren’t in the Disney movie, but for the most part it follows the same story line. There’s a bit more background included, both Belle’s childhood, as well as the Beast’s. The animation was pretty cool – all of the characters in the castle were so detailed and life-like. They were so cool. Also, the beast is just great. They made him look real. I’m so glad we went! Afterwards, we went to Ardene’s and the book store. Then we came home and had a late supper. All in all I had a good day. Now I’m going to head to bed. Night all 💤😴

Tired Day Today…

I’m so tired. I don’t feel like writing anything tonight.  I feel like I say the same old thing every day… Well, here I go – but it’s going to be short and sweet tonight. Today I spent hours entering contests. Many hours, I think! I actually lost track of time while I was doing it. I found a new website today that I haven’t checked out yet, so I went through the fifty or so contests listed on that site, as well as some other ones that I do daily. It depends upon the rules for that particular contest. Some contests let you enter as many times as you want, some daily and some are single entry only. It’s easy to lose track of which ones you’ve entered, as there is a bit of overlap between contest sites. Most will tell you if you can’t enter again, though. We also watched a couple more episodes of The Big Bang Theory, which I greatly enjoy. We’re catching up though, we’re on season 8 and there are only ten seasons, well it’s currently on the 10th season. Once we catch up we’re going to need to find a new show to watch. Hmmm, going to have to think about that one!! I also read a bit and showered. Then we had to get the kiddos from school. Right after school we dropped off our daughter at dance and then went to Costco. They had both the Pegalax and the Metamucil that I needed for good prices. I was super surprised to find both!! They’re nice big sizes too, so they should last for a while!! After Costco I made grilled cheese sandwiches for everyone and we watched the season premiere of Big Brother Canada, which my girls enjoy, so I watch with them! And…that was my whole day. Nothing more nothing less. My face was flaring on and off today. It makes me crazy! Oh. Also, my daughter passed the multiple choice exam and written exam, with 97% and 93% respectively. These are her work exams that she had to get over 80% on or she immediately lost her job at the airport!! She got the highest in the class!!! Yay!! Now she just has to pass tomorrow’s practical exam and she’s home free!!! Fingers are crossed and I’m praying for her. That’s all for now…night all💤😴

Something Silly To See

I don’t know what to write today,

I don’t have much to say!

Today I didn’t really do anything,

I didn’t do a thing!

Today was rather bland and boring.

You could have found me snoring!

I’m feeling pretty tired too,

Bed is what I want to do!

Maybe doing nothing made me tired,

I can’t remember the last time I felt wired.

I entered some contests and watched some tv,

I read my book, there was nothing to see.

Now I’m heading off to bed,

A nice, soft place to lie my head!

Because I’m a sleepy girl.

I’m going to hit the bed with a twirl!

Now if you were watching me,

That’d be something silly to see!

School For Mom And Dad

I spent a lot of today entering contests again. It could easily be a full time job! There are numerous websites devoted to contests, sweepstakes and giveaways! They just have lists and lists of contests. It’s crazy! I figure if I enter enough I’ve got to win something, right?! Facebook also has tons of contests. Many are photos of whatever you could win that you have to like, share and comment on. I’d love to be able to take my family on a holiday. We can’t afford it, so why not try to win one. There are quite a few vacay contests. A lot of them are for two though, not families. There are some family ones, they just aren’t as common. I figured out that by filling in my own information in the contacts of my phone that the info is then there for auto-fill. It doesn’t work for all contests, but works for some! It sure saves time. I added as much info as I could, including email and Birthday. I am using a gmail address for the contests I’ve been entering, not my regular email address. I don’t want to end up with too much junk mail from entering my email. Often to enter contests you have to opt into a newsletter or something. Then you get to start receiving emails from the company running the contest. I hope I win something and I’m not totally wasting my time!! It’s better than sitting around doing nothing! I can get abut stir crazy, so it makes me feel like I’m actually doing something!

I’m super tired today.  I have been all day! I don’t know why, but I feel like I could easily fall asleep! Today was my son’s celebration of learning. We go to his classroom after school and he takes us through different stations. Each station has an activity that demonstrates skills that he’s learned in certain areas, math, reading, etc. He shows us how he can do the activity and we get to see what he’s learning in school. The teacher is there, to help if you need it and you can ask her any questions you may have. This is what they do in place of parent teacher interviews. If the teacher has any concerns, they can take the time to talk to you, otherwise is more about the parent-child interaction. He’s doing really well. His teacher has no concerns. The biggest problem he’s had with school is that he sometimes just doesn’t want to go. He’d rather be home with his Momma!! Other than that, all is good! We’re pulling into the driveway so I’m going to go! Night all 💤😴
