Driving Day Again!

I had a pretty regular day, other than a lot of driving. My hubby had to be on a 6 am flight this morning. He drove the car that our oldest usually drives to the airport this morning. She doesn’t have a parking pass for work yet, because she’s been using his spot. However, on days when they need to be there at different times it’s a pain in the butt! She shave getting her pass any day now, then she can use the employee lot on the days when he needs his spot (which is far closer than the employee lot she has to park in). So I had to drive her to work this morning and then when my hubby got back this afternoon, I drove back to the airport to pick him up, so that he could leave the car there for her to drive home once she got off. After that, we drove my other daughter to dance and went to Walmart to buy my son some rubber boots and then we went to BP’s for supper, while she was dancing. I ordered the garden chicken salad, only 8 points!! A good, healthy choice!!  Afterwards, we picked her up from dance and came home.  That’s pretty much my day. I had a little nap this morning after driving my daughter to work and I got some reading done. Shoot! It’s late and my little man just woke up! I’m going to get him back to bed. So this stays short I guess. Night all! 💤😴

Weight Watchers Meeting

I think that my busy weekend has caught up with me…I’m feeling beyond exhausted! My face was flaring up on and off all day today and I’m just tired. I had a little cat nap on the couch early this afternoon. It felt nice That’s for sure, but it didn’t help get rid of my exhaustion. I even had one of my special cookies, but that didn’t help, it just made me more tired! Oh well, I roughed it out. I went to my WW (Weight Watchers) meeting this evening. I was quite nervous actually. I followed the plan carefully, however the competition had me eating away from home so many times, at places where it’s difficult to make healthy decisions- like my McDonalds grilled chicken and bacon wrap for a whole 14 of my days 34 points!! That’s almost half in one meal!!! I had to make these decisions for three days. Then we had the day of the wedding. At Sherlock Holmes in West Ed after the wedding but before the reception. Everyone was eating appies like spting rolls and nachos etc and I ordered a house salad!! Then there was the crazy 12 course wedding meal itself! If that wasn’t difficult, it was impossible to track – like sea cucumber and eel and shark fin soup. So, as I said I went in worried about my weigh in! However I actually lost weight!! I lost 2.2 pounds!!so yay!!! I want to aim for a minimum of 8 pounds lost a month. So, I’m on my way! We talked about protein tonight. How much a healthy 180 pound person should get daily, about 76 grams or something around that. So about three healthy meat portions/day. But obviously there are other ways to get protein. There’s a waffle mix to look for at Costco. It’s supposed to be really great for baking with because of its high protein. I want to try it. We also did the regular recognition time, where we get rewarded and congratulated for the weeks successes, both on and off and off of the scale. It was a good night!! I’m off to bed. Night all! 💤😴

End Of A Beautiful and Busy Dance Weekend!!

We went to a beautiful wedding yesterday. The meal at the reception was crazy!! It was   a traditional Chinese dinner that had 12 courses. The food was exotic and different, to say the least! It included things like, shark fin soup, eel, sea cucumber, lobster, crab, and many other things. I tried a bit of everything, but let me tell you, it’s not an easy meal to track my WW points!! I just kind of faked it the best I could. I likely went over what I was supposed to have, but it was very difficult to control. All in all, I think I did fairly well at tracking this week, considering my first week at Weight Watchers and I had to be out of town for three days for dance and go to the wedding. That means I had to make wise choices from places where it’s not so easy to just eat whatever you want! I guess we’ll see how I did tomorrow night at my weigh in. Fingers crossed!!

My daughter had to do her lyrical solo today at the last day of the competition. She was nervous and so was I. I was more anxious than I thought I’d be!! I kept having to pee and my mom told me, it’s just nerves.  She danced beautifully and received a gold!! Yay yay yay!! I’m so proud of her! It takes courage to get out on that stage, by yourself, and dance. Especially when you’re in a competition and being judged – you’re not just performing, which is difficult enough! I am so happy that she did well. I was worried that if she didn’t that she’d feel discouraged and it would make the next time more difficult!! I’m so happy for her. I’m exhausted though. After the competition we went to my mom and dad’s to work on my daughter’s school project about someone in our family history who immigrated to Canada. My mom has spent a lot of time figuring out the details and making a family tree, etc for my daughter. So my momma helped her, we had dinner with them and even though she didn’t finish her project, she got a good start on it and now has the photos and info she needs to complete it. Thanks Momma for all of the time and effort you put into this. Also thanks to both of you for coming to watch her dance, I really appreciate your being there!! This weekend was soooo busy. I’m just knackered!!! I’m going to bed. Night all! 💤😴

Too Late!

I am sooo tired. I can barely keep my eyes open!   We went to a traditional Chinese wedding today. It was really beautiful. It was a very long day. There was quite a bit of people there from my hubby’s work. It was such a looong day. I’m just beyond exhausted! This will probably be my shortest post ever. I need sleep and instead of rambling on, I’m going to cut this off really short and get sone rest – as it’s 1:30 am!!!

Sorry that there isn’t any more to this post! Night all! 💤😴

Platinum Day!!!

Yay girls!! What a looong day, but an awesome one – a platinum day! Not one, not two, but three platinums at today’s competition (day two of Standing Ovation dance competition!) My daughter had three dances today, ballet, production and jazz and they were awarded platinum in all three!! Yay yay yay! They did awesome!! I’m so proud of her – of all of them. (There is actually a boy in their class and he did well too, I’m just accustomed to saying yay girls!)                     I can’t believe how well they did! Hard work pays off, I guess! All those practices. The hairspray production was awesome! So much fun to watch! I’m so glad we went to a dance school where she gets the opportunity to participate in a production!! It’s so entertaining to watch and it really looks like they have fun while dancing in it. Actually, my daughter said that she had so much fun doing it. Which is great. Seeing her have such a great weekend makes you see why you dedicate so much time and money into dance. It’s just such a positive experience for them. Just because it breaks the bank doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s bad, right?! So all that remains in this competition (unless she got into tomorrow’s finals with her jazz dance, we don’t know yet) is her solo on Monday. She is sooooooo nervous. It makes me feel equally anxious! She keeps talking about getting a silver or lower. I think she’s going to do fine. She’s never performed a solo before, so of course she’s nervous! Who wouldn’t be??  Some of her friends are in the same category, which means, to her, that she’s competing against them. This is only adding to her anxiety. I’m not sure what to say to calm her down and make her relax. Nothing I say helps. Hopefully after doing it once, it will get easier. I guess we’ll see!! I’m beat and my hubby and I are supposed to be going to a wedding tomorrow. My son is going to a birthday party and if my daughter’s in the finals…well… tomorrow will get crazy!! Until then! Night all! 💤😴

Competition Day!

Today was the first day of the dance competition called Standing Ovation. My daughter had four dances today. She had her modern, lyrical, lyrical line (which is a big group of more than one class combined) and hip hop dances. In modern they received a gold, in lyrical they received high gold, in lyrical line they received high gold and in hip hop they received high gold. So, they had a very successful day. The highest you can get is platinum, but they don’t give out many of those, unless you’re damn near perfect! They were spread out throughout the day, so it makes for a pretty long day!! During her last dance I had someone sitting behind me who had the worst grammar on the planet! It was so bad! It nearly drove me crazy! At one point, while waiting for someone to go on stage she said, ” Dis ain’t dem neither”… it nearly made me turn around to correct her. I don’t know why poor speech bothers me so much, but it sure does!! Not that I’m miss perfect or anything, it was just really really bad!! From about six o’clock on I had a horrible headache! It made watching the hip hop segment, with the loud music and bass so much fun to sit through…not!!  It’s still not gone and it’s just pounding, so I’m going to hit the sack now! Night all! 💤😴

Costume Resolved

Today was a busy evening. During the day was pretty laid back, but from picking the kids up after school onwards was busy!! We had to drive to the airport to pick myhubby up from work again. Then, as soon as we got home I had to take my daughter to her dance. While she danced I went to the store. Then I picked her up and we drove to West Edmonton Mall. We went to Winners and then Forever 21 on the costume hunt. We found a pretty skirt and black top that she really likes, so we bought it for her solo costume. Then we had to go to a couple more stores in the mall. On the way home we remembered that she needs a better bra to go with some of her costumes. A few of them have very open, strappy backs that her other bra doesn’t work with. So we popped into Millwoods Town Center to see if they had one there and they didn’t. Then we drove to Lasenza in South Common. They had the adhesive type bra that we were looking for. So we made sure that we were getting the right size (since it’s $60 and non-refundable!) the lady actually measured her and helped us choose the correct size – you can’t try them on.  I’m a bit concerned about her flopping around everywhere while she dances, as these types of bras don’t seem to offer a whole lot of support!! However, I guess we’ll see tomorrow how well it works. Fingers are crossed. After we bought the bra, we finally were able to go home. I was starving by the time we got home. Our neighbor brought crepes over while I was gone, so I had a quick crepe – just grabbed it off the plate before I checked how many points it was. Thankfully, it was only 3 points! I made my self a quick turkey breast sandwich and talked to my hubby about the cost of everything…yikes!! Then I put my little man to bed and am now sitting  in bed myself! So, I’m going to hit the hay!! Night all! 💤😴

Costume Concerns!!

I tracked my Weight Watchers smart points today. It wasn’t that bad. I said no to an ice cream sandwich – it would have been 7 points!! Too many to waste on something that tastes good in the moment. My coffee cream is 1 point per tablespoon! Which adds up quickly! If I put a little bit of sugar in there, .5 of a teaspoon, it is quite a few points just to have coffee in the morning.  Each food has a points value that is calculated combining the calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein. The first three increase the points value and the protein decreases it. Did I explain that yesterday?? Well, anyway, some of the things I’m used to eating are high and add up quite quickly, like cheese or cream or my favourite yogurt (hmmm…those were all dairy products- that wasn’t intentional!! I guess dairy would be high though…not all of it, but even 1 cup of 2% milk is 5 points!!) I have 33 points allowed for the day and 43 extra points for the rest of the week. Those extra points can be divided between each day evenly, or used for one day to splurge or for whatever you like. But they’re only for the week. If you don’t use them up by the end of your week, they reset at 43 – they don’t carry over. Today I only used 29 of my 33 points. The daily points are like a target and if you’re not exactly at your total the world won’t end!! I’m trying not to use up my extra points until the weekend, because my daughter has a dance competition and we have a wedding to go to. Being away from home will make it difficult to control what I’m taking in. I’ll have to eat carefully still, but I’m not the one preparing it, so it will be harder and I have a higher chance of going over. You can’t exactly choose what they’re going to serve you at a wedding!!

So, as I said, my daughter has a competition this weekend. Her solo costume that I ordered still hadn’t arrived, so I called the dance supply store that we ordered it from today, to see if we could track the shipping, to find out if it’s going to arrive on time. So when I called and asked them when it should be arriving, they told me that it’s set to ship in June 2nd!! Holy crap!! I was floored! Umm, all of her competitions will be finished by June 2nd!! So she has her first time ever performing a solo this weekend and doesn’t have a costume!!  So I cancelled the order, because it’s useless!!! And…guess who went dress shopping?? Yup. Nothing like last minute or anything! Sheesh! We looked in many stores and finally found something that she liked that might work. We bought it, but kept the receipt. We may go to Forever 21 tomorrow evening after dance…to see if we can find something a bit better. But, just in case we can’t, we bought this dress. It’s a pretty black sundress. Her teacher said to go check Forever 21, so I guess we will. Can’t get more last minute than the evening before the competition starts!! Yikes! She also needs a pair of black dance/jazz tights too – you know, in all the spare time we have from now until her competition!! Oh dear! This is stressing me out!! Well, I’m going to head to bed now. Until tomorrow! Night all! 💤😴

First Weight Watchers Meeting

Had a fairly lazy day today. Had to pick my hubby up from work after getting the kids from school, because he and my daughter drove in together this morning, but I needed to go to my first Weight Watchers meeting tonight, so he had to be home to drive our daughter to dance. After picking him up I played with my son for a while, then had to go to my first WW (Weight Watchers) meeting.

At the meeting, they talked about having a limit of what’s an acceptable weight gain and what isn’t, so that you don’t let things get out of control. To have a plan, if you keep gaining and reach a certain number of pounds gained, what are you going to do about it?! Do you go back and check what you’ve tracked, to see what may be causing you to gain? Do you start measuring portions more carefully to make sure you’re tracking correctly? Were you even tracking? Etc. At the end of the meeting, all of the new members stay behind and the leader talks to you about the program. It’s changed a bit. It’s now called smart points and they calculate them a bit differently, using the protein, saturated fat and the sugar. I think it used to be the protein, fat and fibre.  Apparently it’s based on the newest research and I believe it. WW is very up to date, as far as research is concerned. They don’t only focus on food though, they also take activities into account, as well as changing how you think about food. I think meeting with the dietitian my dr is setting up will still be beneficial, because they will talk about certain restrictions, etc, that are specifically related to diabetes. That’s important, because WW talks a lot about fitting all or rather, most foods, in healthy normal sized portions, into your diet. Obviously, they advise and teach about healthy foods and portions etc. But, there are some things that should be avoided with diabetes, so the dietitian should help with that. Overall, I’m feeling hopeful, motivated and ready to start. Let’s see how long that lasts!! Well, I’m off to bed. Night all! 💤😴

Dr Today Prediabetes Talk

Saw my dr today. Guess what? I have prediabetes!! Wow! Shocker! I kind of figured that out on my own by now! But hearing her say it makes it more real. Especially when she said it’s something I’m going to predisposed to for the rest of my life!! I kept thinking about it being reversible. I can lose weight and lower my blood sugar, but I have to pay attention to it forever, because if I gain the weight back – it comes back! Also, I may have more of a problem with it when I’m older, regardless of my weight, she said. (That’s not guaranteed, but a strong possibility!!) Great! Just what we all love to hear! So I bought a book called The Blood Sugar Solution. It’s supposed to have a lot of good information in it. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet. There’s also a cook book that goes with it, but they didn’t have it in stock today. So my dr is setting up a meeting for a sort of class/one on one with a dietitian/nurse, who works with people with diabetes and prediabetes. I’m not sure how long it takes until I actually get in though. I guess I just wait for the phone call. My dr thinks that my hubby needs to be tested and she believes he is equally or even more so at risk than I am. He already has high blood pressure, has a huge belly and she is concerned about him. He’s too damn stubborn to get tested. His excuse today, when I mentioned what my dr said was that he is too busy to get the tests!! What?! I said, you’re saying that you’re too busy for your health?? He just tried to laugh it off and made some wise arse remark about the insurance payout I’ll get if he dies…ha ha, gee that’s so funny! Gosh! It makes me sick to my stomach! My daughter and now my dr both assumed he’d be doing the Weight Watchers program together. But, nope! His excuse for that is that he can’t afford it!! Too many excuses, I’d say! The only good thing is that he does eat better when I eat better. I usually cook the meals, so he should be eating better since my first Weight Watchers meeting is tomorrow!! I guess we’ll see. I wish he’d do it with me…oh well. Stubborn stubborn man I’m married to!! My dr is happy about the Weight Watchers idea. She wants me to aim for 5 to 10% body weight loss to start.  I’m heading to bed. Night all! 💤😴
