Bad Face!!

This morning I was super tired and in pain! I had my fun monthly cramps, as well as my good old face pain. Well, the pain was all day, the tiredness was this morning. So, because I was feeling so blechy, I was very lazy today. My face was just bad and it’s really difficult to function when it’s bad. I just want to lie down and sleep. I guess I could have probably napped, but instead I just vegged out on the couch. My daughter also had a rather lazy day. Her tummy was having sharp pains all day. I wasn’t much help, because of the way I felt. Once I got the kids from school, (it was early dismissal today) I watched a show, then I made some chicken tortellini for my daughter to take with her to dance. I was about to drive her when my hubby came home from work and said that he’d do it. Once they left I made some cheese tortellini for the rest of us. After my hubby got home, we decided we should say goodbye to Christmas. So, he brought all of the boxes upstairs and he, my oldest daughter and I un-decorated the tree and the house. We finished just in time for my hubby to leave to pick up our dancer and for me to get my son into bed. Now I’m going to bed too. If I sleep, I won’t be focusing on the pain!! So that’s what I’m going to do.

Weird Stew…

I feel ill. That stupid stew did not sit right and I feel bloated, sick and gross! Talk about Instant Pot fails!! My stew cooked on high until 3:00 in the morning (another 5.5 hours on top of the additional 5 hours for a total of 10.5 hours.) This morning, once the kids were gone to school, my hubby tried the stew and the damn carrots and potatoes were not cooked yet! Can you believe it??!! That’s on the high setting! WTF?! So I had a sleepy morning in the living room and at about 11:30 or 12:00 I put it back on high for about another 5.5 – 6 hours (thinking we’ll eat at 6:00 tonight). Well, I had an uneventful afternoon at home, picked up the kids from school. Dropped off my daughter and her friends at one of the friends houses. I went home. Remember that I needed something’s from Sobeys and Shoppers, run out and go to both. Takes longer than I expected! I pick my daughter up from her friends. Go home. My hubby comes home from work at about 5:30. I play with my son. At 6:00 my hubby decides that he is starving. We open the slow cooker, which has now cooked my stew for 16.5 hours!!! And…drum roll please… the potatoes are still not cooked!!!! I’m absolutely astonished! What the heck is going on with this thing!! My hubby doesn’t care, he eats it anyway! I put it all in a pot and add some liquid and a few spices and cook it on the stove from 6:10 until 8:00. Guess what? The potatoes were still crunchy?! The carrots finally cooked at least. At this point I say F…. it! My daughter and I each had a bowl anyway. I just ate everything, but the weirdo potatoes. And now, I feel like poop!! I ate my weird stew while watching a show with my daughter. Then I put my son to bed and got myself ready too. I’m going to go now. I really don’t feel great.

Another Instant Pot Fail!

This morning once the kiddos were off to school, I was pretty sleepy. It looks like the kids weren’t the only ones who had to get used to back to school hours!! Other than Christmas Day , I haven’t gotten up that early in two weeks!! So I just kind of vegged out on the couch, beside my hubby, until I had to get moving in order to make it to my dr’s appointment downtown. I talked to the dr about the pain returning, it was super bad all day. She filled my prescriptions and we talked about our upcoming Jamaica trip. She gave me a prescription for myself and my hubby for hepatitis A and B immunizations. You have to get one shot, then another 4 weeks later and one more in 6 months. After the dr’s appointment I met a lady at the Starbucks to look at a dress. I’m trying to find one that I can bring on our trip. I tried it on in the Starbucks bathroom- lol. It was difficult to tell exactly how well it fit, as it was a small space and a small mirror. I decided to buy it from her. I really liked how the top looked…hopefully the bottom doesn’t make me look like a house!! It’s not a style that I generally wear, but I really found it pretty! After that I drove home. My dad and hubby were supposed to be working on fixing our railing to the basement and adding a light switch in the laundry room. However they weren’t there. I saw some of my dad’s work things, so I figured that they just ran out to Home Hardware, which turned out to be the case. They got back about 10minutes after I did. I told my hubby about the shots. Because we need to have the first two immunizations prior to our trip, we had to get the shots right away! So my dad said he’d keep working and we should run to the pharmacy and get them done. So we did. My arm is still aching. Some shots don’t even affect you and some ache, apparently these are the achy type. When we got back, my hubby helped my dad some more and I got everything chopped and ready to make a stew. I was planning on using my slow cooker function on my Instant Pot. Well, getting it all ready took longer than expected and by the time I got it all going, my dad and hubby had finished up and my dad went home and my hubby went to get the kids from school. I knew at that point that we’d be having a late supper, since slow cookers are, well, slow!! Lol. My hubby and my daughter had to leave right after they got home, because she had dance class. So for quite a while it was just my son and I. His favourite thing is alone time with me. We played some games, we played with his floppy, indoor frisbee, we used his new kit to decorate balloons, we made paper airplanes and of course had contests with them, then we worked on adding his face into the top corner of the gaming video that he recorded yesterday. It took us forever! We finally got it figured out and now we can’t seem to get it onto the pink iPad. It’s too frustrating! By the time we were at the end of making his video, my hubby and daughter came home. So, we decided that we’d all have some stew, since it was 8:30 and we were all starving and by that point it had been in my Instant Pot for 5 hours, on slow cooker mode set to high. Low and behold, the carrots and potatoes were still crunchy and raw!!! Argh! My regular slow cooker would have cooked it on high in 5 hours!!! Stupid Instant Pot! How frustrating! By then we were all starving, so my hubby just ran out to Subway and I added another damn five hours to my extra slow cooking Instant Pot!! I think if I keep a running tally, I’ve so far had more fails then successes with the Instant Pot. Looks like stew for supper tomorrow!! By the time we ate our supper it was time to rush my son to bed! The way my face is hurting, I’m going to bed too!!

Video Lessons

My back was quite sore again this morning when I got up. I took it pretty easy all morning. I sat with my son and helped him figure out how to make a video of himself playing s video game, with his face in a square in the top corner, giving running commentary. Just like all of the YouTube videos that he watches. I didn’t really even have breakfast. So I finally cut up some berries and added some yogurt and Special K. Mmmm…it was really good, basic but good! Afterwards, I sat on the couch and read a bit, while my hubby and son played a video game together. My daughter told me she was hungry around 3:00 and I realized that I totally lost track of time! I made them all some KD with hotdogs (nice and healthy). Then I got into the shower! Once I was done and dressed, everyone else got ready and we went to my parent’s house for supper. When we first arrived, my daughter practiced her solo, since she had to go to the studio for solo rehearsal at about 6:00. Afterwards, she and my hubby left to go to her practice. My son and Dad set the table for supper. Then my mom cooked a stir fry, while my dad, my son and I played a dice game. Then we ate supper. Once we were finished, my son wanted to have a bath in my Mom’s big jetted tub. So we got him in the bath and sat back down to drink our coffee. A couple minutes later, my hubby and daughter got back and they sat down and ate. I helped my son wash his hair. Then we dried him off, got him into his pjs and he brushed his hair. Then we got our things together and drove home. The kids go back to school tomorrow and we wanted to get them home at a good time. Once home, I went upstairs with my little man and got him ready for bed. Afterwards I did the same for myself!! My back and face are hurting. It’s making me crazy!! My face is worse right now. My back is just achy in the sitting up on the bed position. There’s absolutely no support for it! So, because of that, I’m going to lie down now.

A Nothing Much Day…

This morning I slept in a bit. It was nice. Once I was awake, I was on my phone for a while and got up and did some things, before woke up my son. My hubby was already long gone to work, while we all slept. When I finally went downstairs, my daughter’s were already up. My younger daughter was in her room, while the oldest was in the living room. We had tea and sat in the living room and watched a show, during which my face started to really bug me. It was bad off and on all day. After the show was finished, I cut berries for everyone. Then we made a meal plan and a grocery list together. Which is more work than it sounds. We watched another show together, then we all got into a cartoon. We were getting ready to go to the grocery store, when my hubby got home from work. So I talked with him for a while, then we went to No Frills. We got our shopping done and took it all home. By then it was getting late and everyone was getting hungry. So, I made supper. It took a while to cook. We ate supper, then watched my son play a LEGO video game. By then it was getting late and it was time for my son to get to sleep. Once he was settled, I did my nightly routine and got into bed and wrote out my day. And now I’m hitting the hay!

Family Movie Night!

This morning was very very lazy!! I stayed in bed for a long time. I slept in in the first place, then I stayed in bed once I woke up. I didn’t want to go downstairs too early, I know the girls were up super late and I wanted to let them have a chance to sleep for a bit. Around noon, my son and I went downstairs. They were almost immediately woken up, because of the dogs running downstairs as soon as I opened the bedroom door. They were, of course, excited to see the girls, so they did their jumping thing and woke them up!! I quickly let the dogs outside, but they were already awake at that point. At least they got some sleep! Once her friends went home, my daughter and I drove my son to a friend’s house to play. Then we came home and flopped on the couch and watched some tv. My oldest daughter was still asleep. She had texted me at 8:30 in the morning saying that she was just going to bed and had stayed up all night watching movies. Silly girl! So, apparently, no one got much sleep! My hubby came home from work early and he woke up our oldest. She was shocked that she had slept all day!! We cleaned up the living room together, then we all ate supper. After supper, we picked up our son and we all went to a movie together. We actually agreed on one! We had free passes that got us in, but we had to pay for a child’s ticket. Actually, because we went to the 3D Ultramax (or something like that) it cost a bit more for each of us too!! Movies are bloody expensive! Once we paid the extra to get in, about $33 and we got a couple large popcorns to share, a drink each and a kids pack for our son, about $60; we spent almost $100 on our night out to our “free” movie…sigh! Oh and we weren’t thinking, because who is stupid enough to go to a movie on a Friday night?! Well, apparently we are!! The place was packed! Huge lineup to get the tickets and huge lineup to get the treats!! However, with everyone’s schedules, it was one of the only times that would work for all 5 of us to go together! And, I guess that once you’re in the theatre, sitting down, it doesn’t much matter how busy it is. We went to Jumanji – Welcome To The Jungle. (If that’s how you spell Jumanji). It was really really funny! A very entertaining movie! Jack Black is super funny in it, well most of them were pretty funny, Jack Black just cracked me up! Definitely one worth seeing! By the time the show was finished and we got home, it was close to 10:15. So, I got my son ready for bed ms then I got myself ready too! So, now I’m going to go to bed. I have to the us into bed sooner tomorrow, because the next day is a school night and schedules are messed up from the holidays!!

Instant Pot Success!

Today my son and I slept in. I probably have to get him on a better schedule as they’re back at school on Monday. My hubby was calling me from work, which was what woke me up. I got up to Instantly realize that my back felt worse. I had to roll onto my side and push myself up to get out of bed. (You know, the way they teach you to get up after many surgeries.) Anyway, I felt pretty crappy this morning. I kicked my daughter out of my spot on the couch and made a cup of tea and carefully sat down and didn’t move for a while. Until my son was hungry. Then I forced myself to get more mobile. It’s difficult with a back that keeps cramping up and spasming. Anyway, after my son ate, I drove him to go play with a friend. Then I went to the bank and I went to Sobeys. I swear I saw a mouse in the store!! I was walking along the main isle on the back part of the store, I was almost at the pop isle when something went darting in front of me across the floor into and under the pop isle. Freaked me out. I told the girl at the till and she said that she’ll tell the manager. Hopefully she did. Yuck! After Sobeys, I got Starbucks and then went home. I made my daughter some KD and had a Caesar salad while watching flip or flop. Then I got my chicken ready to cook in my Instant Pot. I delay started it, then my daughter and I left. We picked up her two friends and I drove them all to the theatre in South Common to see a movie. I dropped them off. I popped into Walmart on the way home and bought my son a good pair of winter gloves and mittens. The ones that he was using were cheap and falling apart! These new ones are Hot Paws and seem much better made. I’m sure they’ll do the trick. When I got home my silly billy hubby said that he turned off my Instant Pot because it was finished counting down…sigh! He turned it off just as it was actually about to start cooking!! Oops! So my chicken was still raw!! So we decided to delay it a little while longer and go to Costco before supper, instead of after. So, we went to Costco. We needed quite a bit, that place sure can add up quickly! We almost spent $400.00 on groceries. But we hadn’t been in a while and there were a lot of things that we needed.

Once we got back home and put everything away, I finished boiling and mashing potatoes and steamed some beans and used a fake packet of gravy (after the failed gravy from the roast last week). The last couple of things, the veggies and the gravy I did once the chicken was cooked and I was letting it de-pressurize on it’s own. (I read that if you do a quick pressure release your chicken can be dry.) I was worried about what it would taste like, after the roast fiasco!! When we took it out it fell apart (definitely cooked in 30 minuets of pressure cooking time!) The skin looked grey, but I knew that the skin wouldn’t brown when cooked this way. We just peeled off the skin and tossed it. The broth/ liquid level seemed way higher than the two cups I started out with!! But the big test was the chicken itself…would it be dry and gross? Or just weird. There was a bit of a different scent from the liquid, so I was worried…but, guess what?! It tasted pretty good!! Yay! It definitely wasn’t dry! My son had already eaten, as had my younger daughter, so it was just my hubby, my oldest and me eating supper. But everyone liked it! I’m so glad! Especially after last time. I was so excited to get my Instant Pot and ended up disappointed after my first attempt! So, I think that I redeemed myself a bit. I’m relieved!

After supper it was already late, we ate pretty late tonight! I watched part of a show with my daughter, then took my son up to bed. My hubby’s also already snoring beside me. He rarely falls asleep before me! However, my daughter and her two friends came here after the movie and they’re downstairs on the main floor. They kicked my hubby off the tv, since they’re sleeping in the living room, so he came upstairs earlier than normal. They’re being pretty loud. I may have to ask them to turn down their voices a bit!! My hubby has to work in the morning. Well, I guess I’m going to go talk to them and then go to bed.

Impromptu Nap!

My back was hurting again today. Not fun. My face was off and on. This morning my daughter had duo practice at the studio at 11:30. I had to bring my son with me to drive her there, because no one was home for him to stay with. It was only a half hour rehearsal, so we just waited in the car. It went by quickly. I drove Amanda’s girls home and then we came home. My son was going sledding with his friend from school at 2:00, so I got him something to eat before he left. They picked him up right at 2:00. Once he was gone I did the scratch cards that I got in my stocking, I won a whole $10. Then I was freezing, so I bundled up in a big blanket on the couch. I ended up falling asleep there. My hubby called a couple of times and my daughter came down once or twice. I was woken up by a text on my phone at 5:30. It’s a good thing too, because I missed a text that had come an hour earlier asking me to pick my son up at 5:30. So I quickly got dressed and went to pick him up. When we got back home my hubby was home from work. We figured out supper together. Then we all ate together. Afterwards my younger daughter and I watched a couple flip or flop shows together. Then she went upstairs to her room and I watched another one, this time with my hubby. When it was finished, we talked a bit and our oldest came home from work. Then I took my son and myself upstairs to bed. My stupid back doesn’t feel great sitting up like this in bed, so I’m going to go and actually lie down. Night All! 💤😴

Threw Out My Back😧

Last night I must have moved in a weird way during the night, (I did wake up a million times throughout the night), and whatever I did wasn’t good, because I woke up with a back thrown out and in pain. Ouch! It was in pain all day long and for a great deal of the time my face thought that it would join in on the fun. Yuck! Stupid face!! So, I had s very slow-motion type of day. My hubby and I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, we were just surfing around for a long time. Then we made lunch together. I sat back down and half watched my son play a video game and half did stuff on my phone. Because my back hurt a lot, I didn’t really do that much. I sat on the couch with a heating pad for most of the day. My hubby did some cleaning, but I did next to nothing! I hate pain…it sure interferes with life!! It left me debilitated today. Very frustrating. I did make supper though. I did “deep fried” chicken drumsticks with my new Actifry (my air fryer). The problem that I read about and ran into myself, was that because of the rotating arm that keeps the food moving in a circular motion tends to scrape off the coating that you put on the chicken. So, end result…tasty, juicy chicken drumsticks but most of the seasoned coating was left in the bottom of the pan☹️. It came with mixed reviews…some liked it better than when I bake it in the oven, others like the oven chicken better. Next time I’ll try a different coating, that you can put on it for just the last couple of minutes, as I saw in a different recipe, and we’ll see how that goes. I was able to fit 10 drumsticks into the Actifry fairly easily, which gives us 2 each. After supper, I watched the movie Home Again, with Reese Witherspoon in it. I’ve been wanting to see it for some time now. It wasn’t as funny as I thought it was going to be. It was good though. It had a nice story and I really like Reese Witherspoon! That actually ended fairly late, so I quickly got my son ready for bed afterwards and then myself of course! Night All! 💤😴

New Years Day

It’s New Years Day and I haven’t thought of what this years resolutions will be. Hmmm…something to think about I guess. I remember when my resolution was to write every day. I’ve gotten pretty good at that. Most of the time I’m just rehashing my day, nothing earth shattering usually, but at least I am writing. I just don’t know what it’s going to be this year. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m starting to get excited about Jamaica again. Especially because it’s so soon!! We leave on February 8th. Just over 1 month away!!! Too exciting. I’m a bit of a nervous flyer. I just hate turbulence. It totally freaks me out. I know that flying is supposed to be safer than driving. I’m usually okay if I keep myself busy, like if I watch a movie or something else like that to make the time go by and keep me preoccupied. Somehow I feel safer with my hubby there. I don’t know why, but I do. This is our first child-free trip! Our oldest daughter is 20 and we haven’t gone anywhere without the kids. Crazy right?! Well, that’s what people tell us anyway. Although, it’s not like we’ve been on a million trips! Our “trips” usually consist of us getting in the van and driving to my mom and dad’s BC house. Anyway, Jamaica is coming up soon and it’s starting to seem more real now! I’m going to dig back into my Jamaica books, now that it’s sooner, and figure out what I really want to do when we’re there. My hubby doesn’t want to miss the Bob Marley (is that how you spell his last name?!) tour of his house and studio. He’s also excited about the Appleton rum tour (probably because of the tasting along the way – lol) I’m not a huge rum drinker though. I’m looking forward to a beach with a good book. I know, not huge plans or anything!! Oh, I also think it looks pretty neat to climb one of the waterfalls. There are a few where you can do this. Some have deeper pools of water than others. I’m not sure which I’d prefer, the deep or shallow pools. It’s supposed to be quite slippery. You need to wear water shoes and people form a human chain to get up the side of the waterfall, then, depending upon the deepness of the pool, you can jump your way back down. Sounds fun! They look beautiful too.

Today we went to my mom and dad’s house for New Years Day. We played a couple games; my hubby and dad were in the garage fixing the cord to plug the black car in when it’s cold during the first game. Then we all played Rummoli (I think that’s how it’s spelled) together. It was fun. It is a good game, because everyone can play it. It’s not too difficult for my 7 year old. He just needed a bit of help with the poker part, which is really just a small part of the game. After that game, we set the table for supper, then my hubby, my son and I played a few rounds of Pigmania until supper was ready. We had supper, my mom cooked a roast and it was really tasty. Then we had cake for dessert. Then, while we were visiting a bit before leaving, my son started on his new Minecraft LEGO that my sister got him for Christmas. Around 8:20 we went home. My hubby dropped us off and went to pick up our oldest from work. She couldn’t drive the black car that she usually drives to work, because they were working on it today. She doesn’t like driving the van, so my hubby drove her to work earlier today and picked her up. While he was gone I got my son ready for bed. Then I also did the same and sat in bed to write this!! Now I’m going to go to bed.
