Jamaica Day 5

Today I woke up around 9:00. We had breakfast and got ourselves dressed and ready to go. We drove, or rather Bill drove us, to Ocho Rios. It was about an hour and a half to two hour drive. We stopped at some scenic spots along the way and got some photos. When we arrived at Dunn’s River Falls Bill showed us where to go to buy our tickets. When you get changed into your bathing suits and put whatever you don’t want to get wet into a locker, you sign up with a guide. They wait until there are about 12-15 people on the list. Then the guide takes you down to the beach. He introduced us to the videographer, who records the group climbing up the falls. When you are at the bottom on the beach looking up the waterfall, it’s very intimidating! I wish I got a photo from the bottom. Hopefully it’s on the video. Here’s just a small section somewhere in the middle:

There were some pretty little kids in our group. I told myself that if they can do it, I can do it too! They have you line up and form a human chain, holding the hand of the person in front of you and behind you. I went in front of my hubby (he said in case I fall, so he could catch me). I was behind a young girl, probably about 12 years old. The guide started at the front, while the videographer goes in some of the pools and opposite from us, in order to record us climbing. There were some big steps and slippery stones, even though they scrub the rocks we walk along with steel brushes every morning. Near the bottom, there was a big step down from a rock with water rushing over just your feet, to waist high water!! I made the step, but my hubby slipped and fell into the pool at this spot, thankfully it was deep enough that he didn’t hit any rocks, he just got really wet! There were some big, precarious steps where the guide would stay at the spot and help people up. There was a place where you can slide down and go under and another place where we stood side by side (my hubby and I) and you fall in backwards. It was a lot of fun! At one point I thought we were done, but the waterfall curved and continued up. We had a good time and it felt really good when we finally reached the top! We our guide, Floyd, said that they don’t stop people from going up on their own, but that’s when they see the most falls and injuries. And I can see that, because there were spots when it looked like you could go straight up from where you were, but they’d take you across the falls to go up the other side. They knew where there were holes or random deep spots and would tell everyone to keep left or whatever to avoid a sudden deep step and a potential fall. It was a neat experience and I am glad that I didn’t chicken out at the bottom – lol!! We decided to buy the video, because how often are we going to do something like that?! Then we bought some water and a t-shirt, got changed and went to find Bill. We were a bit hungry, so Bill took us into Ocho Rios to a jerk restaurant. He came in with us and we all had something to eat. Then we got back on the road for our long drive back to the villa. I got some neat photos on the way home. We popped into the grocery store to buy a couple things, some veggies for supper and more bottles of water. Then we came back to the villa. We had supper not long after we got home. We had fish tonight. Then we tried to watch our video from this afternoon, but we couldn’t get the DVD player to work. My hubby is generally quite good at figuring those kind of things out, but he just couldn’t get it to work. He thinks something may be wrong with the cords. We ended up bumming out for a bit in front of the tv. Then we came into the bedroom because we were both feeling tired. He’s already asleep. He fell asleep as soon as he hit the bed. I said that I was going to FaceTime the kids, he said okay. By the time my younger daughter answered, he was already asleep!! I ended up talking to them on my own. My daughter was excited to tell me about her special meditation class in dance tonight. My son is starting to really miss me. My oldest keeps complaining about a plugged toilet that she can’t get unclogged. It’s been that way for a few days now!! Silly girl! I told her to ask my dad, her grandad, for help if he comes over to work on the cabinets again. I guess he’s still been painting the cabinets while we’ve been gone. Thanks daddy 😘 I’m excited to see it! Well, it’s 12:47 here and I’m beat! I couldn’t fall asleep last night, so I’m tired today!! Tomorrow we plan on spending the afternoon at the beach! So it won’t require quite as much energy as we needed for today. Despite that, I’m going to bed now! Night All! 💤😴

Jamaica Day 4

Last night we decided to make today a relaxing day. I started that out by sleeping in – much later than I planned! Once I was up and had some fresh fruit and yogurt, we quickly had Bill drive us to the first store we went to the other day, just down the hill from us. We needed to pick up a couple of things. We spent the rest of the day lounging by the pool. I read my book. My hubby slept and jumped into the water quite a bit. We had some clouds, but no rain. My hubby sun burned his legs and arms. We had chicken for supper. After supper we relaxed on the patio for a while. Then we came into the bedroom. My hubby is watching Netflix on his tablet. I had a quick shower and sat down to write this. For once I’m done before 11:00. Maybe I’ll actually get to sleep at a good time tonight!! Night All! 💤😴

Jamaica Day 3

Today didn’t go at all as planned!! After breakfast we decided to go to the Seven Mile Beach in Negril. It’s supposed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, some rate it the best in the Caribbean. Bill, our driver, was driving us there. On the way we had to crawl along in a huge line of cars for about 45 – 60 minutes. We passed so many run down shacks and restaurants and bars. Surprisingly, many of them were still open. A lady in a shack that had a hairdresser sign on the outside was inside doing someone’s hair and saw us taking photos. She smiled and waved at us. When we finally got near the end of the slow ass driving, we realized it was another army check stop. They were definitely looking for someone specific and it clearly wasn’t us. They just waved us through. From there we were able to get up to speed. We drove through a couple small, quite run down looking towns. In the third small town, called Lucea (sounds like Lucy), we had to stop because the person in front of us was turning. Unfortunately the van stopped for them to go and never moved again!! It refused to restart! Bill and my hubby checked the engine and there was a ton of smoke coming out and something was leaking. After looking at it fora bit, they decided it definitely wasn’t going anywhere! A couple younger guys came over to see if we needed any help. Bill got back in (I was still in the van) and my hubby and the two guys pushed the van off the road and into a parking lot. We were in this run down town with goats wandering around and stray dogs and teetering, colourful shacks. It was quite interesting, despite being on the side of the road! Bill called Lenteen (our cook and house keeper). She called her brother and asked him to come rescue us! He actually lives in Lucea, so he arrived fairly quickly! (Thank goodness!) While we all waited the two guys who helped push the van stayed with us. They kept asking if we were okay. We talked to them for a bit. Then Lenteen’s brother is Lloyd arrived and we waited a bit while they all talked. We finally got into his van, along with Bill. By the time we got into the van it was about 2:39!! We decided that we would just go back to Montego Bay and go to Doctors Cave Bathing Club (which is a private beach). It cost money to enter and money to get a lounger-chair. Not that much though. The nice thing about it was that once you’re inside, you don’t have to worry about tons of people harassing you to buy things from them. They’re supposed to be quite aggressive. Also, it felt safe there. You could see people leaving their things to go in the water, without huge concerns that someone was going to come along and take something. We could see that it was raining on a big part of the island and it looked like we were going to get rained on, but it passed by us. After the beach, we briefly talked to Bill, he was back with a rental car. We decided to go to Margaritaville for supper. We sat on the top floor, on a deck that jutted out, over the water. It was really beautiful. The sun was setting just as we got there. We had some good food and drinks. Then we found Bill and hopped into the new rental car. It was actually more comfortable than the van (lol there has to be a positive side to our breaking down day!) We got back to the villa and was I ever tired! I got ready for bed and then started writing this. I’m having a really difficult time keeping my eyes open. I think I’m heading to bed now. Until tomorrow!

Night All! 💤😴

Jamaica Day 2

This morning my hubby woke up around 6:30. Too early for this girl! I slept in until almost 10:30!! I actually didn’t intend to sleep in, but I was obviously pretty tired! We’re on holidays anyway!! After our late breakfast of bacon and eggs, we decided that we would go shopping for souvenirs and things for the kiddos and then we would raft up the river on the bamboo rafts. The first shop that we went to was fairly close to our villa. As soon as you walk in they offer you a Red Stripe (beer), a pop or a bottle of water. We shopped there for about an hour. My hubby tried shots of different kinds of Jamaican rum and picked up a couple bottles. We also bought some things for the kids. Then we went to a newer shopping area. There was a sort of boardwalk area that you walked down , with shops lining each side. Tons of jewelry stores and many touristy shops. There was a good variety. There were also some people outside selling handmade items. We took a while checking out the different shops. We went into a jewelry store called The Royal Shop, think…The Royal something or other. There was gorgeous jewelry. My hubby bought me a beautiful ring! It’s a brand I’ve seen back home. With a lifetime warranty. It’s so incredible, I just love it! Happy early Valentine’s Day to me💕 After our shopping, we got back in the van and started heading toward the river rafting. We were almost there when we realized that it was really close to supper time and it gets dark early! So we decided to turn around and head back to the villa. We were both hungry when we got back. Our cook made us a super tasty supper! After supper we went for a dip in our pool. We have the whole pool to ourselves, so we might as well use it!!

That’s my hubby in the pool! After getting out of the pool, we talked about our plans for tomorrow and the rest of the week. We FaceTimed the kids. Then I sat down to write this. My hubby sat down too and fell asleep. It’s getting late, so I’m going to follow suit and do the same now. Night All! 💤😴

Jamaica Day 1

I’m feeling sleepy. We had to get up at 4:00-4:30 in the morning. My dad picked us up and drove us to the airport. Because my hubby knew who was running security this morning, we were able to bypass a very long security line, which was nice! We got to our gate in very good time. On that flight, even though they said that it was a “full” flight, no one ended up sitting by us, so we had the three seats to ourselves, which was nice. When we arrived in Toronto we didn’t have much time between flights, we thought we would have to be running to get to our next flight, but we lucked out! The plane we got off of ended up being the same plane that we had to get back on!! We had time to grab a quick sandwich before boarding. We were much closer to the back of the plane on that flight. It was louder, but once I was watching a movie on my iPad it was fine. Both flights were smooth without a lot of turbulence, which I like. We arrived in Montego Bay around 6:20pm, which is two hours later than the time at home. We were picked up at the airport by our driver for the week, Bill. He is nice. Definitely says “mon” a lot – lol. When we arrived at the villa, we were met by Lenteen (I’m not sure if that’s how you spell it, but that’s what it sounds like.) We talked with her for about 45 minutes. We had Bill drive us to get some food, because we hadn’t eaten yet. He took us to an authentic, Jamaican jerk chicken place. It had a bit of a kick to it, but was very good. We were both quite tired, so after eating we came back to the villa to relax and go to bed. I’m going to do that right now. Night All! 💤😴

A Packing Day!

This is going to be a short one tonight! I need to get to bed because I have to get up early for our flight. This morning I frayed my jeans while watching some TV with hubby. I ran to Sobeys, Rexall and Shoppers. Then I came home and had my daughter back up my phone, as well as put my photos onto the computer. I went upstairs and spent the rest of the day/evening (other than supper) packing and getting ready for our trip. Now everything is done and ready to go!! I even shaved my legs and had a shower before bed. I need to sleep now, because it’s going to be a short night!! Night All! 💤😴

Pre-Comp

Well am I ever exhausted! I had a super long day today. This morning I sat with my hubby for about an hour and watched The Good Doctor. Afterwards, I got ready to go. Around 10:30 my younger daughter and I had to go to Fort Saskatchewan to the Dow Centre. Every year her dance studio rents the Dow for the day. They call it Pre-Comp (as in pre-competition!) They run through all of the solos, duos, trios, large groups and regular groups. She has a friend of hers, who judges competitions come for the day and write down comments, corrections, etc exactly like what happens at a real competition. Some dances that don’t go very well and/or need work have to go again. It gives the kids an opportunity to perform all of their dances on a real stage, with a “real” adjudicator and a “real” (the parents) audience. It helps them with spacing the dance on a real stage and, hopefully, helps a bit with the jitters. We were there from 11:30 until 8:00. My daughter is in 9 dances this year, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop, hip hop line, production, a variety duo and a lyrical solo. I think that she did a great job! She did her front walkover!! She’s getting good at her expressions. There are some things that she needs to work on, but from my perspective, she’s doing pretty good. They all are. I enjoy watching! I don’t know why I’m so tired, but I am. It’s a full day and my stupid face pain was on and off throughout the day. That alone is tiring. I guess it’s just a long, full day, that’s all. Whatever the cause, I need to go to bed. I’m going to be spending the most of my day tomorrow packing and getting ready to leave for Jamaica Thursday morning, bright and early!!! I can’t believe we leave in a day…crazy and exciting!! Well, I need a good sleep so I can get everything done tomorrow. Night All! 💤😴

A Pretty Busy Day

This morning my hubby and I watched The Property Brothers. It makes me wish we had the money to renovate our house. Well, actually, my Dad came over and he and my hubby started cleaning our kitchen cabinets. They were super nasty!! Last week my mom did the first layer of cleaning. Then today they actually were scraping layers of gross crud off of them with a putty knife. I guess that they’re the original cabinets from the 80’s, so that’s a whole lot of years worth of build up. I had the thought that we should paint our cabinets white and get new hardware for them. I thought it would brighten up our kitchen and maybe it wouldn’t look quite so dated. Well, you tell my dad something like that and it’s bound to happen! The word procrastination isn’t even in his vocabulary!! So, now that the kitchen is clean and organized, he decided it would be a good idea to start prepping the cabinets to be painted. It’s not a quick job, and we leave in a couple days, but there’s no time like the present!! I had to pick my daughter up from school early today, so that we could go to the dance store to buy some things that she needs for pre-comp tomorrow. We didn’t have any time over the weekend, it closed at 7:00 tonight and she danced until 7:45. The only time that worked was this afternoon. Once I picked her up, we came back home and she got ready for dance. Then we left and on the way we stopped at the Beaumont Community Centre, so that I could vote. We drove to the dance store in Sherwood Park and we bought a pair of black jazz shoes, a pair of canvas ballet slippers and three pairs of tights (black, tan and pink), all for the cheap cheap price of $170.00!!! Dance sure is an expensive activity! From there we went to London Drugs and then Subway to get her supper to eat on her break. I dropped her off at dance and then I went to Winners. After getting a couple things there, I went to my mom and dad’s house. I had supper with them and a short visit. Then I went back to the studio to pick up my daughter. We drove to Beaumont, stopped at Rexall to pick up my daughter’s prescription, and went home. By the time we got home it was almost my son’s bedtime. I did a couple quick things and then I got him ready and into bed. Then I did my own bedtime routine and got into bed to write this. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to just go to bed and shower in the morning or if I’m going to shower now and then go to bed. I’m undecided. Hmmm. Well, regardless of what I decide, I think I’m going to go for now. Night All! 💤😴

So Much Running Around!

This morning I slept until 10:00 again. When we first woke up, my son and I played a game on the iPad. Then we went downstairs and I had my tea. He played Minecraft for a while. I just sat talking with my girls for a while. Then we had some food. We made a grocery list that will last the kids while we’re in Jamaica. Then we dropped my son off at a friend’s house to play and we (my oldest and I) dropped my hubby off at a friend’s to watch the Super Bowl. We went to Sobeys and bought quite a few groceries. Then we went to Shoppers and got a few things. We drove home and picked up my other daughter and went to Dollarama to buy some pens, highlighters, paper and a binder for her CALM class. We went to Rexall and got her some things that she needs for pre-comp on Tuesday. Afterwards we finally went back home. At home I got some laundry together, as there are a few things I need washed in order to pack them. Once I got the laundry in, it was already time to run out and pick up my son. When we got back home, I put on a pair of jeans and my daughter helped me draw a line on each leg, in order to cut them into capris. Then I cut them. I went downstairs and started supper. I did the dishes while supper was cooking and then we ate in the living room while watching the HGTV show, Fixer Upper. Then I did more laundry and started fraying the ends of my jeans. I didn’t have enough time to finish, because I had to get my son into bed. Once he was sleeping, I got myself ready and wrote this. Now I’m going to check my laundry again and then I’ll be going to bed.

A Nice Visit

The font still seems really big to me. It’s late and I’m tired! This is going to be a short, point form type of post. I just really want to get to bed. Also, I really don’t have a lot to say today.

This morning I slept in until 10:20. It was nice!

I had breakfast with my hubby

I watched HGTV for a bit, it was one of those house flipping shows

My oldest, my son and I played Wizard

I went upstairs to figure out what clothes I want to bring to Jamaica and what needs washing

Around 3:45, I stopped and we went to my parent’s house

There’s a lot of snow on the ground and it was cold today

At my mom and dad’s, we played a few games before supper

The power went out just before supper was about to be ready

We lit a bunch of candles and my dad found the flashlights

My son was excited to have a candlelit dinner

Everything was cooked enough to eat

We started taking things to the table

We were almost ready to sit down and the power came back on

We decided to eat by candlelight anyway

Supper was really good

We had chocolate/caramel tarts for dessert

Then we played another game, called Phase 10

We drove home, it was minus 27 degrees Celsius

I played once quick round of Go Fish with my son

It was time for bed

Once my son was sleeping, I got ready for bed

I am freezing ‼️

I got ready for bed.

I got into bed and wrote this

I’m going to sleep now

Night All! 💤😴
