“You might just have wings and not know it yet,” Jake said to Sharry. She looked at him like he was crazy, “uh, I think I’d know if I had wings!” Sharry replied sarcastically! “After seeing Michael’s black wings and yours, well they’re huge! It’d be kind of hard to hide those…from myself!!!” Jake just laughed good-naturedly. “Not necessarily! Fairly often nephilim live an entire lifetime without ever developing their wings.” Jake said, “if you do have wings, they’re dormant, as we do the training and you fly with Michael and I, you’ll start to feel them coming in. It’ll start out almost as an itch that you can’t quite scratch. Then it will turn into an ache. You’ll have a really rough day or two as they break through the skin. Then they’ll always be there, but you’ll learn how to make them invisible, just like we do.” He smiled at her, then noticed her mouth was wide open in shock. “What?” He said. “Break through my skin!!! That’s awful!!” Sharry squirmed,”you’re saying I may already have wings growing beneath my skin??” She went pale,”I think I’m going to be sick! I’m not good with pain!” “It’s okay,” Jake said. “We’ll just keep you comfortable in the infirmary at the Eve Garden. We’ll have one of our physicians there to help you with any pain or discomfort. Don’t worry hon, it sounds worse than it is!” “Oh sure. Just throw me in the infirmary full of strangers, as my wings break free from my skin…my WINGS!!! Jake! This is insane!!” Sharry yelled, “how can this be happening to me?? I’m sitting on a fricken’ cloud, with my Angel boyfriend talking about when my wings develop and tear through my SKIN!! If I wasn’t on a fricken’ cloud, I’d find a door to slam or I’d at least be able to pace. What is happening to my life!!?” She was close to tears and breathing in and out in ragged breaths. Jake put his arms and wings around her and she put her head on his shoulder. “I know this all feels crazy right now. Don’t worry. We’ll take it really slow and when it is all done, you’ll see that you were strong enough and brave enough to face it all. We’ll defeat Lucifer and then, hopefully, your life will go back to normal,” he said soothingly. “Yah, right, because having wings is so normal!!” Sharry said. “We’ll teach you how to make them invisible, so no one will ever have to see them,” he said.
Sharry sighed, “okay, okay. I’m sorry for losing it back there, it’s just a lot to take in, you know?” “I know it’s a lot. I wish that there was an easier way to do this, but there just isn’t. You needed to know about Lucifer and about Angels. It’s the only way we can keep you safe!!” “And just what do I tell my mom that I’m up to? Especially when she finds out I’m not going into work?”Sharry wondered aloud. “I was thinking you tell her you’re joining the army. The training you’re starting will keep you away from home and there are barracks that you can stay in. You’ll be a lot safer there,” Jake said. ” Join the army! And leave my mom all by herself?? She’ll be devastated Jake!” Sharry replied.”I’m all she has and she’s all I have!!” “Well, to be completely, brutally honest, your mom will be safest not being near you,” he said. “Lucifer wouldn’t think twice about using your mom for bait! We already have extra patrols outside your house.” “Oh no! Is she safe! What am I going to do?” Sharry felt so helpless. ” You know what?” She said, “Maybe we can send her away for a while. Somewhere safe that won’t make her a target. If anything happens to her, I’d never forgive myself! I just want this damn training to be done, so I can keep her safe.” Jake replied, “it’d be a lot easier if we knew whether or not she knew your father was an Angel. If she knows about us, we can just be honest with her and then move her to a safe house ASAP. Is there anyway you could try talking to her about it?” “What am I supposed to say Jake?” Sharry asked, “hey mom, was my dad an Angel??” “Actually, yes, just like that!” Jake said, “because if she knows he’s an angel, she might get uncomfortable and awkward and give it away and if she doesn’t, she’ll likely think you’re talking about whether or not he was a nice guy. ” “Huh,” Sharry responded, “that just might work. Okay. I’ll do it. Tonight after supper. I’ll do anything to keep her safe.” The wind had started to blow and it made the cloud seem even more unstable than before, not to mention freezing cold. “I think I’ve had my share of heights for today,” she said to Jake. “This wind is making me nervous, I can’t look down or I may throw up and can’t clouds, you know, break up and sort of dissolve or disappear or whatever it is clouds do after a while. Could you please take me back to solid ground! Please!” “Of course love,” Jake said. He gently scooped her up and flew her down. She didn’t dare open her eyes, so she had no idea where they had landed, but she didn’t care. As long as there was solid ground under her feet!
