Can’t Stop The Feeling…Just Dance, Dance, Dance!!

Got some Christmas shopping done today. My daughter only danced for about an hour and fourty-five minutes, so it didn’t make sense to drive home. So I went to Winners.  Normally she has a ride home on Thursday’s, from the family that we car pool with, but the little girl is sick today, so we had to pick our daughter up after class. We’re so fortunate to have connected with this family this year. It helps with the driving sooo much! Our daughter dances a minimum of four days a week, with extra practices on the weekend. She has classes from Monday to Thursday. Fortunately, this other family from Beaumont has a daughter who dances three of those four days. So, it helps a great deal. With our oldest starting work this week (she still doesn’t have her red pass, but is able to work in certain areas only with her green pass) my hubby and I have been juggling driving like crazy. Our oldest really needs to get her licence. Now that she has completed drivers training, we just have to book her road test and cross our fingers that she passes. She’s still a bit nervous, but confidence, in anything, comes with practice!! Anyway, I got sidetracked totally!! What I was talking about was dance, oh and Christmas shopping. Dance is killing us right now! I swear that 30%of our income goes towards our daughter’s dance! (Allow me to bitch about money here!!) we pay about $250 monthly, for the actual classes. Then there are choreography fees on top of that. Then we have to pay for competition entry and, so far we’ve paid $350 for the first, $400 for the second is due in two weeks and there is one more after that, probably in that same price range, due before Christmas. The way it works is the competitions charge per dance being entered, not per dancer. So, since our daughter is in hip hop, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, lyrical-line, production and her solo,(she’s also in acro, but that style is not entered in the competitions at her school) it gets expensive!!! (Understatement of the year!!)  The final, BIG payment comes in January/February when we have to pay for her costumes. Last year they cost about $1000 and this year she is in two more dances than last year, so it will likely be closer to $1250…my hubby is going to freak!!! Then we just found out that they changed the jackets and other apparel to a new design. Because she is in the elite performing group (oh yah, that was extra too!!) she is required to have one of he jackets. They are the lulu style now and we just found out that it costs $85. I know that isn’t the end of the world, but it just seems that every time we turn around there is another  cost. It’s getting crazy. I don’t know what to do. My hubby wants her to go into less dances next year, which I understand financially, but she just loves it so much and, generally, as they get older, they dance more, not less!! I don’t even know what she would drop if that has to happen.  Gosh I wish that I could work and contribute more to my family! This illness grates on me!!  They are selling a dad’s t-shirt that says “I don’t dance, I just finance!!” I’m thinking about buying one for my hubby for Christmas. If there’s any money left…lol
