Th familiarity struck her as odd.
She couldn’t recall anything like this place,
But it was there, screaming out in her head
“There’s something more in this space!”
A sense of fear crept up her spine.
Now why was she feeling afraid?
Her palms went damp, as she broke into a cold sweat,
Is this a game being played?
“Where am I?” She said into the quiet darkness.
“Huh”, she thought, “was it always this dark in here?”
She knew in an instant, as instinct took over,
That she had to get out of there, was an exit near?
Where was she anyway? Why couldn’t she remember?
She heard a quiet shuffling sound and whipped around.
Nothing, she could see nothing at all!
Then what in the world had made that sound.
There it was again, closer this time.
She had to do something. Why was she still standing there?
She tried to step, but could hardly move.
Suddenly, in that moment something brushed past her hair!
She screamed and tried to run!
She got about 3 feet before being yanked back.
“What the…?” She was chained to something.
Suddenly the fear overwhelmed her and she started to yack!
She wiped her face with the back of her hand.
She couldn’t recall anything. She’d had a couple of drinks,
She’d just felt beat and had gone to bed.
She tried to stop crying with a couple of blinks.
What was going on? Where was she? Who did this?
She grabbed hold of the chain and yanked it as hard as she could,
But it didn’t budge. She thought she heard a quiet chuckle.
Someone was there, watching her!! “Not good. Not good. Not good.”
She said in her head. What should she do?
She asked,”Who’s there?” No answer, just the suffocating silence.
Again a quiet shucking sound.
“Help me!” She yelled, hoping whomever it was wouldn’t use violence.
Suddenly she was grabbed from behind,
and a hand was put over her mouth and he yanked her down by her hair.
“Stop screaming” a menacing voice said into her ear.
She was so frightened she just nodded and sucked in a breath of air.
Just then she saw the reflection off of something shiny,
“A knife!!!”she thought in a panic. This time his chuckle was right in her ear.
She tried to jerk away. He held the knife to her throat.
She had never before experienced such a level of fear.
As he pressed it into her throat, she suddenly sat straight up,
In her bed. She was drenched in sweat.
“A nightmare?”she said out loud. There was her husband, snoring beside her.
She was still shaking. She went into the bathroom and got her face wet.
She snuggled close to her husband, but didn’t dare close her eyes.
Oh how real and true that had felt and seemed.
She tried to calm her breathing.
That was worse than anything she’d ever dreamed.
