Waking up, not ready for the show
Enter stage right, the pain
Pop another pill, take another hit
Sinking slowly into the fog
The pleasant numbness gradually fills
Slowly flowing into her limbs
Deadening the all-encompassing pain
That overwhelms her days
Movements slow and lumbering
She goes through the motions
Pretending to function like the masses
Feeling flat, yet fabricating emotions
Incessantly saying the words,”I’m fine”
The only thing to break through the fog is the pain
Of course it is
The never-ending, all-encompassing pain
Popping another pill in an attempt to disrupt that pain
Gradually burning from the inside out
Needing to extinguish that ever-present fire in her face
Wishing she had the will of even a quarter of that damn domineering pain
The fight is seemingly futile
Vaping drops a transparent blanket over the pain
She can still see the pain, find its pulse, yet it is as if she were on the outside, looking in
Witnessing her pain from a removed stance
Her brain won’t stop, won’t shutdown
She can analyze until the sunrises
With inadequate sleep, the pain escalates
Pop another pill, take another hit
Call forth the numbness and enter the faker
She’s needed for her daily role
Take a bow
