Sorry for the poor editing yesterday. I was pretty tired and out of it while writing. I told myself that I’m going to write a poem everyday for the rest of the year. And, since I already tackled writing daily, I thought making it a poem daily would be an added challenge. So, some days they just flow and others, not so much. But, hopefully, out of every 10 bad ones, there’s a good one. Then, by the end of the year I’ll have a good size collection of good poems. That’s the idea behind it anyway. So, I guess I’ll try to write one now. Some days I just can’t get the ol’juices flowing as easily, so bear with me!(did I use the wrong form of the word, “bear”??? I used to know those things easily, back in my university days!!)
Running in fear,
Sweating and shaking!
Unsure if she’s safe,
Feels like the earth is quaking!
Questioning why,
She has such bad luck!
Just another thing,
To add to the muck!
She hears a sound,
And sucks in her breath!
What’s after her?
She’s scared to death!
And then there’s silence,
In a suffocating way.
It’s too quiet!
Will this be the day?
Did she tell him
She loves him so?
Did she hug her kids,
And let them know?
Out of the quiet,
Someone calls her name.
Does she answer,
Or is this a sick game?
Suddenly a light,
As bright as day!
And her name again.
Does she move or stay?
“Hon” she hears
“Wake up, you’re dreaming!”
She lets out a sob,
“I heard you screaming!”
She opens her eyes,
To see his caring face.
She grips him tight,
Sweating like she just won a race!
“Are you okay now,”he asks,
Concern in his eyes.
“I think so,” she answers
“But did the kids hear my cries?”
He shakes his head, no.
“Thank goodness,”she sighs.
She snuggles into his chest,
She’s still afraid to close her eyes.
She feels the rise and fall
Of his chest as he sleeps.
Another long night for her,
For she still has the creeps…
