Behind these eyes

I try to erase

The criticism and scrutiny

I see on each face

Behind these eyes 

I hide the truth

I smile, I nod

No need for a sleuth

Behind these eyes

I hide the pain

If it could bleed

Red tears would rain

Behind these eyes

I yearn to cry

To let it out

But they stay dry

Behind these eyes

Words cut deep 

But it won’t be known

I’ll never weep

Behind these eyes

I scream and yell

Yet all is quiet

My pain hides well

Behind these eyes

I pray for relief

A day, an hour 

However brief 

Behind these eyes

I see you clearly 

Your love and exasperation 

I love you dearly
